And the last. Thanks for looking Woody, and the tips too. The detergent was all I needed, which was nice. Now it almost looks more like an emerald green to me. What do you think? It does still have a bit of tealish though. Thanks everyone. Any Wolfe experts out there with any thoughts on the yellow? Thanks again!
That cleaned up nice!!!
I'd lose what little you have left of the label so that it will make the ink more appealing, I believe.
Yes, that's more of an emerald or teal green.
If I see any bottles with big chips like that, even if they are rare local bottles that are really hard to find, I wouldnt buy it nor would many collectors, Im sorry to say.
Those inks you have probably date from around the Civil War and those ones are amazing bottles, definitely keepers. Id love to have em.
Thanks Photolitherland, I appreciate the info on dating! I did figure the amount of damage on the pontiled meds was enough to make them questionable in terms of their worth. I have seen wolfes go for about a 150 on ebay though, and I'd imagine a chip lip would still make it desirable with its color, but perhaps not.
Woody did you mean get rid of the label on the ink or the Wolfe? or both? I haven't seen even a partial label on a wolfe before, any good? Any idea on worth with these guys? Thanks Photo and Woody.
Woody, again... what do you think of the emerald ink, do you think its comparable in worth to a teal that you mentioned was roundabout 100? Also, I noticed what looks to be a 1/8" crack obviously caused by the forming of the lip on the Harrison's, because the glass is all deformed around it, almost just looks like a ripple but I do think it is a crack. does this devalue the piece since it was caused by the production of the bottle? Thanks again for your help!
Hi Asterisk, those are some nice finds! That umbrella ink looks more light emerald than it does teal, which makes it even better. If it isn`t damaged, it should easily be worth a couple hundred, probably more, especially with that super pontil. Now where did you say that foundation was?????????[]
The pontiled inks are all basically pre 1860, probably all from the 1850s. The umbrella is worth somewhere in the 1 to 2 hundred range, the Harrison's is about a $125 ink now, the aqua umbrella is a $30 plus or minus bottle, the 12 sided guy I'd say around $40. Burn your Kovels. The price guides are just about worthless for real value. Go to a bottle show and see what the dealers are getting for similar bottles. That's the best way. AND watch ebay. Those are generally real world prices.
Can't help you on the Wolfe's. I'm an ink collector. Those are a nice, solid start to a collection of early American inks.
