Hello all! This is my first post! [:)] Please be gentle with me!

I recently purchased a farm in Nova Scotia which was originally built in the 1850s. Since then, the farm has grown over time and became a blueberry winery. I have been going through the old barns and I found a bunch of lovely old (tiny) bottles. I know nothing about bottles, but I do believe these might be quite old. I think this because
a) they were found in the back of the barn in an old wooden crate under a ton of other junk!
b) some of them have unusual bubbles and lumps in the glass
c) they don't look like any bottles I'm used to seeing
d) a few of them had stuff written on them that I could look up and determine they were old.

Truth is, I really like them! They're cute and pretty and I thought I might make a display of them in my in-home shop that goes along with the winery. Hubby said that might be asking for trouble if they are worth something - somebody might want to steal them. Anyway, I joined the forum to learn more about my bottles, if that is possible, such as how I might determine their ages (I am presuming they are post 1900...), how I might determine if any have any value, and especially what they might have been used for at any time.

Attached are 4 pics of my favourite bottle so far. It is 2 and 7/8 inches tall, 1 3/8 inches wide and 5/8 inches deep. There appears to be a seam that is diagonal as shown in 3rd pic. No markings that I can see. Cute little bottle though!

I will post a few of them and see what you experts in the field think! If I do anything wrong, please let me know! Thanks for any comments and help!

Excellent pictures Claire and welcome to the forum.

Hard to say for sure what these were used for originally but could be just about anything. I say: SAMPLE something.

Date appears to be late 19th century / early 20th century. Value: minimal because they / it is unembossed. $4.00 - $5.00 max. IMHO

It appears that it may have had a ground stopper. Any of those laying around?

Keep posting.

Thanks Botlguy!

Given the low value, I think I shall keep it! I am rather fond of it. Have not found any ground stoppers but will keep looking! There is so much junk in that barn!

I will take some pics of the ones with embossed letters tomorrow and get those posted so I can get some opinions on those.

Appreciate your input!
Claire
