Would love to find out a little more about this bottle. It is approximately 6in diameter on base; 5-6in tall. Does not appear to have any seam. Top looks like it has been cut. Thanks for any info and for the use of your site.

This was dug? Are you the one who dug it? And if so what did you find around it? It looks an awful lot like an art piece to me. Certainly never seen anything else like it.

Yes, southern Eastern Shore homesite, lots of other bottles, nothing earlier then late 19th century. Very confusing piece. I agree it has more of an art glass look, but top throws me off.

I suppose it could be an end of day piece from an old glass house, but I have never seen anything quite like it before. it kinds looks like a cross between an historical flask and an onion or mallet type bottle........

Hi and welcome. I don't know what to think. The rigaree is sloppy and inconsistent to say the least. I'd have to guess more function than decorative if it evens the base out.Maybe an industrial setting oil lamp base or something? [8|]

A couple more pics-if any angle view would be me helpful, please let me know. Thanks for all your responses. A theory from a collector down here was it was some type of oil lamp and the flattened bottom could have made it more useful on a boat, etc. The top would have had a metal top with a wick.

I think you are correct, its an oil lamp base without the top and wick, made by a apprentice who was learning how to blow items-bottles.........Andy
