I've got a weird one. Never seen anything like this. An ugly bust surrounded by a Laurel wreath. On the backside, a non-centered eagle with a panel embossed UNION. Keyed smooth base. No pontil.
Any idea on G# and value is much appreciated. I looked up and down the interweb for one like it. Thanks!
Speculation's always been that it's supposed to be a bust of Gen. Grant. I don't have McKearin and Wilson in front of me, but can categorically say that it's listed. It's an oddball no doubt. Jim G
GI-79 pint. (GI-79a if not embossed "Union"). One in Blaske auction sold for $65 (1981). Digger Odell valued a stained one at about $80 in 2001. One sold on ebay in 2012 for $45, but may have had lip ground off.
Thanks for the info! Yeah, it's an ugly bust flask, a slumper, and needs tumbled. It could be a beauty, but something tells me the patina is too severe...
