USA HOSPITAL DEPARTMENT??

I found this a couple days ago. I have never seen this bottle before. I'm familiar with the USA Hospital Department bottles but I've never seen or heard of this example. Same bottle, aqua, quart, blown in a 3 piece mold, squared applied top, but never with ghosted embossing. The pictures are hard to see but when you hold it, you can clearly see USA HOSP DEPT. Anyone seen this before or have any information?

interesting , looks like some embossing was filled but hard to make out what it was.

USA HOSPITAL DEPARTMENT?

It's really hard to tell from the images posted. The very lightly embossed U.S.A. Hosp. Dept. bottles I refer to in my book are definitely on them. They are cobalt blue also. Yours appears to be a blanked out mold, which was probably after the Civil War. That would probably be the explanation and reason being for bottle molds that no longer were necessary.

Thats cool,
It is made after the civil war.
They just pounded out the lettering on it
it was cheaper than getting a new mold.

if the lip is tooled rather than applied that would also be an indication of when it was made.

Great bottle.When did they stop using 3-part molds?
