Hi Tom,
..Made by Whitall (sp) Tatum Co. NJ I believe. (More famous for their insulators.) If memory serves they went out c. 1920 with that particular mark.

Looks like the monogram has the letters "S", "A", and "M". It's shape makes me think it is a shoe polish but with the monogram, it might have been an apothecary bottle instead.
