My Sister-in-law passed away recently and whilst clearing out her house we found this old bottle, its blackish green in colour and looks to have some age to it, does anyone have any information on it we are very curious!!

its either an 18th century bottle or a modern reproduction of one. Hard to tell from that photo.
Post a good photo of the lip and the bottom of the bottle.

Well hello danmar, No doubt you came to the right place to help you. I have been a collector for years and have also worked in the glass making industry for nearly fourty years. Since retirement I have concentrated on helping bottle collectors recognize the glass making marks on their bottles. I haven't really concentrated on bottle values, that seems to be as bad as "Wall Street".
Your bottle looks like an early onion type of bottle. A lot of these came from Europe and a lot of them were made in America. To get the most help from anyone, you will have to take at least three more pictures. One as a close up of the finish (The top closure area of the neck); a side view of the whole bottle from a near horizontal shot and a picture of the bottom. The finish picture will show us the type of applied or tooled top on the bottom. The side picture will tell us about the type of the mold or free-form of manufacture. The bottom picture will show us the type of empontilling used. ie. Blow pipe tube open pontil, or a puntee rod with glass particle or glass dust contact sticking agent. or possibly no empontilling. The function of empontilling was to put a handle on a hand blown bottle so the finish could be shaped and or glass added like the ring on yours. If that ring has some twist or overlap to it - your picture should show that.
In my opinion it is a nice bottle and I would appreciate knowing about it if you are selling it. Please feel free to visit my homepage. shown below. RED Matthews.

RE: 2nd picture

it looks like it has opalescence and patina on bottom which would normally indicate a dug bottle. If so its probably authentic.

Any idea where it may have come from?

Here is the top bit, I have actually no idea how she came by the bottle probably from her late husband there were actually quite a few old bottles in the house, by the way I'm in England

RE: 2nd picture

Hello again denmar; Well your on the right track. The bottom picture looks like it is more European than not, but it wasn't providing much related help. Also pleas give us the size, height and body diameter. Another question is are there any noticeable mold seams anywhere? Thanks RED Matthews

RE: 2nd picture

looks original to me.

I expect in England you can find those things just laying on the side of the road.
