Has anyone seen a finish like this? I dug these two bottles at the old city dump. They look like they have a place for a cork and they have screw threads. I know there were some whiskey bottles that had a cork and cap that screwed on over the cork to be used as a shot glass, but i would think that would only be on a bigger whiskey bottle. These are only 4 and 4 1/2 in tall. Thanks

Hello Kathy,
a picture would make this real easy.. for now I will guess: they sound like sample size bottles. Many ketchup bottles had threads for a thin, metallic cover over the cork.. would love to see what you found..!

Well kath and cyberdigger, there were a lot of whiskey flask and special bottles (usually Pociet Flasks, or Pumpkin Seeds) that had a threaded finish and sometimes a ground sealing surface that was ground after the threads were created by the threads cut in the neck of the bottle. They could also been sampler containers. We will need some pictures.

Hey Kathy,

Those are cool. I've not seen that finish before. Could'ya tell us the sizes and show the bottoms and what is embossed there. Do, please, take more pictures, remembering all the while to check that "Embed" button.

The shape of the clear one puts me in mind of a detergent. Measuring cap?

I'm looking forward to RED's words after he sees these.

Sokatb I think your bottle was for a blacking material, like a shoe polish. It had a stopper with a wire and dabber end.

This was covered by a metal cap with formed threads. I have a Bixby bottle where the threads are on the heel, and a lithographed metal cap covers the whole bottle.
Yours is a nice example - to bad you don't have the cap. RED Matthews
