went looking at the local area in town that sells a litle bit of everything out of old buildings and homes. Came across a claw foot tub in pretty good shape and they wanted $300 for it. Does this sound like a fair price, main thing it needed was like a new faucet/hardware..

Hello thetater, A few years ago we tore down the old Siesta Inn Hotel and surrounding buildings. We had seven of the old cast iron tubs and got $ 300 for each one. We also have one in our cottage on the lake here in NY; and we just recently had new pipe-ing and faucets and a shower head put on it with water supply pipes up to a rectangular shower curtain rod fastened to the ceiling. It all turned out great. RED Matthews

They just leveled an old house here locally , with a cast iron tub with brass faucet in it . The blasted thing was in the upstairs of the house , made me sick , as there was no way I could bring it down out of there . They tore the house down with a track loader , and the tub went into a dumpster . I thought the faucet was quite odd being it was made of brass . The tub its self was in like new condition , not a spot on it anywhere . Never saw any of them bring three hundred around here though . Different areas , different prices I guess .

I'm sure they do sell for $300 but around here you can get them for $100 or $50 or $10.

Doing great, waiting for this rain to stop so I can take the kids out on the river.

Also, I'm going to Colorado Friday to attend my Niece's Wedding then play around for a couple of days! Take care!

$300 sounds like a lot to me unless it is in perfect shape.
Always check the porcelain around the drain area, thats where it normally starts eroding.
THe hardware can cost quite a lot if you buy new brass.
I have a original one in my house that I re-plumbed.
