Hello - I am new to this wonderful site and am hoping for some help with age and maybe value of some bottles. The one pictured has a very nice label "Pure Witch Hazel".The rest should be readable. Thanks for any help.
Welcome to the forum Babs....Very nice looking label,...which adds value to a somewhat nondescript bottle,...I've always liked anything "witchhazel'...I guess it's just the cool name. To me your bottle looks like it could be from around 1900 to 1915......(aprox.)....Not so sure on value. But vr. nice,...I like it.
It would be interesting to know when/how often local druggists gave out embossed bottles with their products/prescriptions versus them proffering labeled "slicks". In my labeled collection, most bottles are labeled *and embossed*. But I have a fair number of slicks with original labels all "found" back in the day as well.
The embossed pumpkinseed/coffin/dandy flasks in many collections were given away for Christmas/New Years as a special advertising item which is why they are so rare. Oftentimes a one-time event where a local saloon would have a stenciled mini-jug or embossed flask made to commemorate the Season.
I wonder if druggists/pharmacies also used embossed bottles only on a special occasion (such as their 25-year anniversary being in business, for example) rather than as an everyday "expense" item.
