Here's a cool barrel that was recently given to me by my grandmother. She told me that it belonged to her aunt who spent her whole life in south Philadelphia. The barrel then went to my dad who had it in his store in front of the penny candy counter. The old men who drank coffee and hung out in the mornings would use it as a seat or a foot stool. There was a large crock of peanuts on the floor next to this barrel and good amount of their shells are still rattling around inside (along with some dried up swedish fish and sour patch kids I'm sure)! Anyway, the barrel held beer (I'm assuming) made by C. SCHMIDT & SONS INC PHILA PA. I'm guessing this is about TOC or so. Anyone have any more info on this barrel or on C. Schmidt? Would love to see some of his bottles! Also, I want to thank my dad for letting me take the barrel even though it should have probably gone with him.

No idea why the pictures are upside down. I didn't take them upside down, they're not saved that way on my computer either. Sorry folks!

Great giant "bottle". I have one that size that I use for a small side table. I had a piece of quarter inch glass cut for a top. I put postcards of the brewery on top of the keg, under the glass. Schmidt made beer up until at least the mid 1980's. There is probably a lot of available information. If you look carefully at the end and side bungs, you may find a patent date on one of them. when I cleaned mine off, I found a 1907 patent date on the side bung. Nice back story for the keg. That makes the value as priceless. Scott

Awesome barrel and story. Don't feel bad, my pictures always come up upside down. I kept asking about a rotate button, they got every other useless button on here except a rotate image button lol.

Great barrel indeed, I'd love a pair to make end tables out of...

Yeah, me too! I currently have my bedside lamp on it. Looks great and it's close to the bottles too!
