Yesterday Creek walk Slug Plate & Blob Top, soda TN

Stream rocks and rip rap are not bottle friendly! In a steam , you can repeatingly access, if not overwhelming , move them to the non-flow stream edge or top of the bank. I cringed when I saw this straight side 1920's era soda impacted against this stone.

Ah luck, after a storm the bottle settled down after the stream flow, nestling beside the rock instead of exploding on impact. This is a very scarce small town slug plate Chero-cola, only the second one I've seen. Needs a bath!

Great little story! Can't wait too see the cleaned up stuff. I have to start looking in my local river when I am off work soon. The same river I have kayaked many times.

Reminds me of the walks I took through the TN creeks around Clarksville. Several times I found bottles in the bank, but hidden under the roots of a tree or under piles of leaves. I had a very short time to search, so unfortunately never found a complete bottle older than the 40s or 50s. I found one nice amber slug-plate Gay-Ola, but as I pulled it out of the bank it broke into three pieces. I still have it, though.

Good luck, u2 , Michael , I've done the same! When I realized their value , I begin digging them out! Soaked all day, some are heavily stained , and some had come out of the banks needing a rinse only. Those on the bottom stream edge , are really rough. Here's the two best.

The slug plate Chero is a rarity! The Hargan isn't , but how often do you find a clean , 1880's unbroken blob top in the middle of a creek! Shown is a pile of HS Cokes from different local towns and other states.
