Thanks Rick,Branden, Rory,Andy and Conner,Chris did an awesome job didnt he!!.I received in the mail today 10 1808 Philadelphia Aurora General newspapers at a bargain price of 29.00 dollars. They were bought sight unseen but are loaded with glass history which I was kind of expecting they would have but just a few mentions not a ton of mentions!! Dr Dyott went into the Shoe-leather polish /Blackening business as his first entrepreneurial adventure. This edition of the newspaper Oct 18th 1808 lists an ad placed by Dyott where he is offering to the public his blackening product. First up is the top half of the first page. It is kind of difficult to read at this distance but I wanted to show you the whole front page of the news paper.

3. This is my favorite ad and it is only in this edition out of all 10 news papers. Here is the mentioning of the reopening of the Kensington Glass works on August 9th of the same year by James Rowland the new owner who would eventually sell the Works to Dyott in 1821. In these old news papers when an ad is placed that is to periodically run at different intervals through out the year, the initial date the ad was first placed is always shown next to the ad,thus this ad was placed on August 9th of 1808 and it states that the glass works will be up and running on or about August 20th. This ad is just a reminder to the consuming public that the works are now in blast and probably ran a few times a month as a subtle reminder to all interests. Just above this ad you see the name John Hewson jr whose calico print business was located on the same property as the glass works as at one time his father John Hewson was also an earlier owner of these same Kensington glass works

Thats quite a repair job,Howd you know what the original lip looked like though?(i.e that big umbrella type lip versus a regular thin flaired lip)

One small section of the lip was still present on the back side of the bottle. So from that i could tell the exact size and shape of the lip.

And Steve I will send you more information about the dig after i return home.

4.Dyott mentions in this ad which was first placed on June 9th of 1808 the moving of his patent medicine warehouse from #57 South Second Street to #11 North second Street. This was the beginning of his domination in the early glass and medicine business. At this time Dyott was receiving all of his glass from the Olive glass works of Edward Carpenter and David Wolf in Glassboro New Jersey. Carpenter would die later the same year opening the door for Dyott to become directly involved in the glass works probably as the sole agent at first and later as a direct business partner. Dyotts early flint glass products were made at these works as they had already been producing flint glass from the start of their operation by the German Wistar trained Stanger family in 1779. The Dyott vial Chris found and repaired was a product of these works.
