Makes sense. Sounds much riskier than digging a century-old privy pit elsewhere:eek:! (Bohdan probably has no such risks where he hunts bottles. While heavy metals from mining activity might pollute some of the Slocan waters, ornery moose and bears are the more probable challenges.)
Infections ??? Gimmee a break! Far more infections just walking down the street where you live. And yes we have old privys too. There is no pollution from mining here. There are infections of various kinds everywhere. Life is a risk. Get over it please.

Just tired of people afraid to get their hands dirty. Ask any doctor - stop babying your kids and yourself. Playing in dirt immunizes you to a large degree. And yes I would drink out of any creek here that does not originate in a mine or have beavers living upstream. And willong might consider getting the facts before making assumptions about mining here. There are creeks here where there is visible lead and zinc right in the creek... but no pollution hazard. It is a natural phenomenon and has existed for millennia.

I would have agreed with you before I touched that material near me with my bear hands once and it took 4 days for the swelling to go down. Fingernails were impossible to clean, they just had to grow out. The incinerator waste in this area is no joke and touching it doesn't make your immunity improve it seeps into your skin and stays there. If it was dirt I wouldn't mind, I always dig in the dirt with my bare hands, but this stuff is toxic waste full of all sorts of poisonous substances.

If that is true... then I am wrong. But what in God's name are you doing living there in that shit. Get out. One thing I've learned is that you ALWAYS have a choice. Make the right one... or live with rubber gloves, face masks and asthma sprays. Recognize that nobody is listening - not your politicians or even the Supreme Court. It's probably going to get worse.

I don't wear a mask, only gloves when digging in harmful areas. I don't live in that area I just visit because that's where the bottles are. Things aren't that bad. They're only bad if you allow yourself to only see the bad. There is so much beauty and tranquility to be found everywhere. Turn off all electronic devices for a week and just go outside and you will see.

Don't have electronic devices - just desktop computer at home. No cell phone. I live on the edge of Crown Land in the bush.
I've noticed Bohdan trending more and more that direction the past few months. I gave the little jab about heavy metals in the Slocan (old mining district in BC, Canada) just to see what type of response it would elicit. It was about what I expected:rolleyes:.
