What is the oddest glass object that you have ever dug or obtained that was dug

I’ve got a glass turtle that came out of an Alton Illinois privy about 45 years ago it has applied head, feet and tail. There is an umbilical cord as well. Years ago I saw a display of glass sex toys made by glass house workers from the St. Louis area.

    Glass turtle whimsy

I collect turtles made in glass plants. They are found is every color that a glass bottle or decorative piece of glass was made in. Does anyone else collect turtles The turtle in this photo is dated 1879. I’ve collected glasshouse turtles for 30 years and this is the first one I’ve seen that...

    Creek walking in Virginia

While visiting my Daughter and her family, we took a walk along the creek running thru the neighborhood. I was enjoying my grandsons antics as he threw rocks in the water. I was looking for stuff that had washed out of the creek banks. I found a piece of a green pontiled soda, just a piece of...

    Tips on where to dig?

I had a hard time getting spring steel years ago. I was talking to a guy who I teamed up with later on and he said to try a garage door spring manufacturer. I found a spring maker in town and was able to buy twenty feet of steel. That’s great, I can coil it up and stick it in my cars trunk. I...

    Found a small privy site

Are you sure you are not digging in a foundation of some kind. Not many privies had the wall covered with cement. There could be some good stuff in the foundation.

    One Room Schoolhouses

Your building looks like a telephone company central office. All the switchgear for the community telephone system was located in the building. A local telephone company built one about like yours in 1996 to appease a local historical society. Inside the building there will be some openings...

    SANBORN MAPS FROM EDRNET

I just did a search for sanborne maps for pennsylvania and got Into Penn State's library. They had Pennsylvania maps readily available. Allentown maps went back to 1885. Just a quick search to find that map. No pass word needed.

    opened up a stone liner

Made my post about digging deep privies and got an email from Mr Martin. He wanted to know how I knew about the collapse fatality in Cincinnati. He also indicated that he was not wise to provide enough information so people could figure out where he is digging. I don't see a problem with...

    opened up a stone liner

At 32 feet deep, you are a perfect candidate for well diggers poisoning, build up of respiratory gases in an enclosed space. When the poisoning hits, you pass out and don't feel a thing when it happens. Anyone trying to rescue a victim without a scuba rig will die as well. This is a confined...

How to dig a still standing privy.

How old is the still standing privy building? If the building is still standing, the pit might not be very old. Around here, Missouri, a pit would fill up every twenty to thirty years or so depending on use and the building would have to be moved or the hole dipped. You might want to probe...
