Colonial chamberpots

Been digging in my usual creekfront colonial trash pit again. Over the years, I've made many interesting finds there including ceramics, glass, pewter cutlery, buttons, coins, indian artifacts, etc. The number of black glass spouts and bottoms, in particular, has been very high. This had to...

Want to put together a privy digging brochure

Decided it would be to my advantage to utilize a nicely done color brochure to help me get permission to dig at old homes in a particular neighborhood. I know some folks have used them with great success, and wanted to give it a shot. Was just looking for some tips, recommendations, examples...

Some recent colonial pit digging finds

When I wasn't detecting this winter, I was searching out and digging colonial trash pits. Was successful in finding a couple early ones. No whole bottles as usual, but did find a lot of cool stuff. Both sites date to about 1650. First 2 pics are from site #1, showing the opened hole, and...

Need ID help with old jug

My digging partner found this old jug in an area where we've been digging colonial to CW era stuff. As I recall, its about 14" tall, and has a "2" etched on it as shown. Appreciate any help in dating this piece. Thanks from a first time poster. Picture cropped - please see Help - Using...
