Advice on video recorder

I have been looking at handheld video recorders to record some digs this spring and summer.Does anyone have any suggestions on a brand or model? I dont want to spend a ton of money but i do want a quality one to last a couple years at least.I already have a tripod and i hope it will fit any model.
