I'll take better pics tomorrow of this and a couple others dug today.-

This one is not on Steve's (Mr Wisconsin bottles) web site and comes from a pretty small town.
Might be a previously unknown?

So today Nic, John and I met up in East Saginaw to dig a Saloon privy that Nic had previously posted about. He and his GF Sarah left, because of undesirables starting to mill about (remember?).
So we got at it today. The thing I didn't realize- there had been three murders in the past week or so in the proximity, including a 6 year old girl. I also didn't know 6 police officers had shot a homeless guy 28 times a couple blocks away, and on top of all that, Jesse Jackson was in town today, because of the violence. I might have stayed home, if I had known. :>(

So we got this beer and a number of other broken ones, odds and ends and one local druggist. The privy we are looking for, at that spot, is probably over the fence and that guy says no way.

On to spot #2, which panned out better. We got four local druggists, a couple pipes, a Merchant's, two Green's German liniments, four or five other commons, a very early Hostetters and the majority of a yellowware spittoon. Seems like I'm forgetting something?

I'll contact Steve and see what he says about this bottle. The first thing I noticed about it was the name. Anyone else recognize the name of a bottle digger/collector from Florida?
Bill

Found the following in the 1907 American Brewers Review.

From Wayne Krolls Badger Breweries Past and Present.

"Casper Strum ( about 1886-1892 ) Operated a meat market and livery. Must have bottled beer in connection with his business." "Blob top,Amber,Quart, Center ( slug placement) , no glass maker given, rare"
The book didn't say whether the businesses were in Chilton but I would assume so?

Hard to say how scarce this bottle is as the book was last printed in 1976 I think. I love those old slug plate beers and would be a happy dude if I found it.

There was some sort of dust up at the Mr Bottles site a few years back and it's been relatively dead since then. If I recall, there was somebody else on that site who you could send bottle pics to that would post them in the gallaries. It's too bad too and I am sorry the site ended up sort of rotting on the vine for lack of a better term. It was a great place to learn/talk about Wisconsin glass. It's still a great resource but hardly all inclusive list of Wisconsin bottles.

For Wisconsin beer bottles, Wayne Krolls book Wisconsin Breweries Past and Present is hard to beat. It's dated material but still a great resource. The book is a tough get though and I was lucky to stumble upon a copy on Amazon. I heard rumor at the last Milwaukee bottle show that Wayne was putting another updated book/books together but I've heard nothing about it since.

Another excelent book is Wisconsin Soda Water Bottles 1845-1910 by Roger Peters This book is a MUST if you are into Wisconsin bottles. Roger should be set up at the Milwaukee bottle show and should have coppies for sale. He's a nice guy and interesting to talk to.
