Posted this in unexpected, but going to xpost it in case it's not seen. was at the dam on the Menominee River next to an old meeting hall. Son was there for a grad party and I had been told that the shoreline where I was at had bottles.I was standing on a small point that makes a lagoon behind the dam. There are tons of these in the water. Was a bit muddy and didn't have digging gear on....

measurements are: 8 across x 6.5 high x 5 across at the base..... same measurements as a M-2430..but slightly different..and this one is a brown drip. crazy. I'll have to go pull the m-500's out too...

Looks like a high voltage Ohio Brass insulator. Im not 100% up on the big power stuff, but it may be a little older. I dont know if its rare of has much value. Might be worth going back and seeing what else you can find. The local hydro crews must have dumped a bunch of stuff in the river at that place, which was pretty common up until the 1970s or 80s.

If they were available to me I would pack every one of them home, identify them and research the value. If they aren't worth much I would add them to the other 2 or 3 dozen similar types on display around my place. Yard art don't ya know!

yeah..not sure of the rarity. I know the dam is very old. There are quite a few of these insulators there.there are some of the 5 part ones too. I could have walked from insulator to insulator. No name or numbers on this one and I know there are quite a few that are unmarked that were made by diff companies. The two pieces are Portland Cemented together. Next time I go there, I'm going to bring my wading boots and a pair of digging jeans. Here's a pic of a 2430 (this one is an ultra-rare grey one)... I really like the swirls and coloring on this insulator. Here's the info on size etc from allinsulators.com: Manufacturer or Marking
