Here's the ironstone that rode 20 miles home just like this, in the back of my PU. Turn 'em upside down and they are good to go. My buckets were too full of jars and bottles.

I don't know, prob'ly. I haven't seen it since we left the 'hood, so can't say for sure. At last report, it is good and plenty "foamy".

Complete and undamaged ironstone pieces were also in there. Why they tossed perfectly good plates and dishes is beyond me.

I read an article from an archeology mag a while ago that suggested that when new owners/ relatives took over the house, the lady of the house would dispose of the left behind dishes and anything else she didn't want. It could be assumed that there was a change in the styles or fashions of the day when the new owners took over. It could also be assumed that the dishes in the privy were all that was left of a once complete set, along with other single pieces. Kind of like not wanting someone else's dishes they left behind, or inheriting your grandmother's outdated stuff. Also, when people moved, it was assumed that they threw out stuff they didn't want any more, just like today.

Cool. If you do decide to let it go, I'd be interested.

there were many local, and distant, pharmacies,

Ah, distant in the sense of San Francisco pharmacies amongst the haul?
Any follow up pictures of the keepers?

No SFs, just Davis, Sac'to and Woodland. No great rarities, either.
