Bottle without seam

Does it mean if a bottle does not have a seem that it is before 1900 's? thank you

If a bottle does not have a seem it is a blown bottle. And yes it was made before 1900, any bottle where the seem stops before the neck was before the ABM. In 1903 the automatic bottle making machine came in, and all bottles where this way. Rick

It gets complicated there.... bottles have been blown in a mold since the early 1800's (without getting to technical) which means they have a mold line, or seam. A bottle with out a seam could be earlier, (free blown), or later because it was turned while in the mold, to erase the seam, (1880's-1900's), or blown in a dip mold or cup mold which doesn't really leave a seam. Depends on the bottle, but first you will have to learn the characteristics of each process to know the difference

or like Rick said too, bottle were free blown up till the 1850's or so also, while at the same time molds were used for other bottles in the same period...
