I've seen a little talk of interest on this and have always been a little intrigued myself. Has anyone noticed a time frame when 'works' became 'company'?Does it have anything to do with making AND bottling as opposed to a having a bottle maker and a bottle filler?I only have a couple with 'works' and they fall around the 1900 mark (the period i like) and are real hard to get any info on,mine anyway.I guess this elusiveness adds to the intrigue.

I'm not sure it makes a difference. There was the New England Glass Company and say Kensington Glass Works at about the same time for example.
Then there is this new thread about Highland Bott. Works which doesn't make the bottles but sells a beverage. There are plenty of bottlers that sell a product but are bottling companies.
It may be that at some date one fell out of favor but not completely.
Then I wondered if it had something to do with the name. For instance a town or area, Westford Glass Works and a persons name like Cunningham & Co.. No good there either, Belleville Glass Co. and Clevenger Bros Glass Works.
I will say it looks like there are more that fall into the town/area and persons name but it's not exclusive. Either is a date range.
I guess what I'm trying to get across is, I have no idea.

are there companies still using the term 'bottle works'? if so,my bad.i don't recall seeing it in researching newer bottles and thought that it kinda faded out with hutches.just wanted to give you the chance to point out my ignorance.guess i'll thumb through the glass marks & see how long the 'works' were working.

Soda works on this 1947 bottle. I have a few acl's that say soda works too. No company though.
