This is a good thread

I found a bottle in a 1870's pit that was embossed on the base a
symbol like the # sign without the second slash.

It was a six-sided spice bottle, the picture I still have of it isn't a very closeup of the base, but thought I'd post it anyway.

Doug, here's a flask I have that has a similar mark, kind of hard to see but looks like a # or tic-tac-toe symbol.

I have found several anchor embossed flasks both on the front of the flask and embossed on the bottom. Most all have been either 1/2 pints or pints. This is the only quart that I have found. It has an impressive anchor embossed on the bottom.
