Bowlers Rhinegold Lager Blob

A couple Fridays ago, a friend called me about a local auction that had some 30 boxes of bottles going up for bid that night. Most were dug, and alot were commen, but there were a few nice ones here and there. One call to my friend Tod, my partner in crime, and we were there a little early for preview. We noted several nice bottles mixed in the boxes, and wrote down the box numbers. Tod had his eye on a nice yellow amber Whiskey from our area of Albany NY. and a number of Blob Beers from our area caught our eye. We ended up buying about 10 boxes of bottles for what seemed a reasonable sum, including the Albany Whiskey. This is one we had never seen before, from right in our own area. T. FITZGERALD / BOWLERS RHINEGOLD LAGER / AMSTERDAM NY. I looked on the sodasandbeers.com site, and it was unlisted. There were some bottles from this firm, but nothing about this one. Tod has one of those picture memories, and if he hasnt seen it, we have not come across it.

Here's the bonus part. Base is embossed CLYDE GLASS WORKS / CLYDE NY. Very few of the NY State Blobs we come across are Clyde Glass Works.

Nice bottle! It will be added to my web site on the next update. The beer was from Henry Bowler's brewery (1889-1916) in Amsterdam.

Hey Tod, Glad your a member here, and saw this. I also have one from Glens Falls, NY that also appears to be un recorded. Will try to post a pic of that one right on this thread. wont be till later tho.

AMERICAN BREWERIES II lists a HARRY F BOWLER brewing in Amsterdam 1889-1916. I would say that Fitzgerald is the bottling company. Nice bottle. Thanks for sharing. [sm=thumbup1.gif]

Thanks for the info you guys came up with on this Blob. We do all the Bottle Shows in the area as well as quite a bit of digging, and have never seen or heard of this one. It s great that its got the Clyde Glass Works Base embossing. I will likely be putting it up on Ebay in the near future with no reserve. Here is another Blob I came up with this Summer in a Shop in Glens Falls. W. H. VAN BENTHUYSEN 23 WEST ST. GLENS FALLS, N.Y. I had never seen it before, and cant find much out about it. Has anyone ever come across this one? Lousy picture, has a few spots of white stain inside. I think this is pretty scarce too.
