Nice jug!
Handle & Zipf is a famous Newark, NJ potter. If you Google Handle and Zipf it will give you several web sites to look at. Also, the American Pottery Auction currently has several pieces of Handle and Zipf . As for E Kane & Co, can't find anything. Probably a New York Merchant from the late 1800's era. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Sweet jug. I'd google for it. Waasdorp runs a nice pottery auction and has some good info on their site.

On another note, its nice to see dave3950 on the board. Delaware is taking this board over.

"No sleep til Brooklyn" a little music lyric for those under 40 here on the board.

Kane was in the Wholesale wine and liquor business in Brooklyn in the 1870 to at least 1906 time period. In the 1875 Directory, it is listed as Edward Kane & Company, while in the 1895 Directory, it is listed as Kanes Edwd Son (Henry E. Kane). The 1902 through 1906 Directories all list the firm as just Kane E. & Co. Addresses used are 22 Union, 24 Union, 5 President, 665a 5th Ave, 570 3rd Ave, 465 5th Ave and 200 Ave A. Some addresses, such as the Union and President addresses, appear frequently, while others appear for just a year or two.
