Joe asked to see a picture of the tap knob we dug a while back and I finally got a pic of it. So - here it is!

Kate,...thank you that's very cool, Ever since I found out about Burke, I've thought their cat symbol was cool....A lot of their bottles, though crown top are very crude and beautiful. I dug just the insert from one of these tap handles years ago in a place called "Java Center" near a working saloon that went way back....it was right next to a tourist railroad so I had to dig at night,..I didn't know what exactly it was for a long time.[:)]

Joe - that's pretty neat! You can polish it up with a dremel & buffing wheel and some polish. (I use something that starts with the letter Z but can't remember the name offhand).

It's probably worth a bit of money since the tap knobs themselves seem to be pretty generic and you have the part that makes them valuable. Not sure where you get the top-knob missing that part, though. Maybe it's not as simple as it sounds to me.
