Hi! I have a lilac hued ink bottle that has
light embossing on bottom (Carter's / No. 247 / 3 /
Made in U.S.A.) and a rough edged irregular but
circular shaped marking around the embossed area.
It also has a small round circle in the middle. Is it
possible to have embossing and a pontil ~ or could
it be remnants of a burst bubble? Thanks for your
help! [:)]

P.S. When going thru my father's/brother's copy of
William Covill’s “Ink Bottles and Inkwellsâ€, I found a
Yankee Magazine article on Bill and his inkwell collection
dating back to September 1972. It includes some pictures
of his collection and I have scanned it into my computer.
If anyone wants a copy, email me at
capecoddertreasures@comcast.net.

Looks like an early Automatic Bottle Machine made bottle,
Probably made about 1910.

The lilac hue you refer to is actually called sun colored amethyst. It may darken more if you leave the ink bottle in the sunlight.
I've dug one of those inks before.
Good find!!!

Any bottle that was made in a mold could be embossed. Being pontil marked really has nothing to do with whether it could be embossed or not.

Yours in not pontil marked.
