Hi all. I picked up this cathedral bottle at a yard sale last Saturday. It's the first cathedral I've seen in person. Unfortunately, the lip has been broken off. The guy I got it from said he picked it up somewhere as a lamp. There was a metal band around the top and he bought it hoping the lip was still intact underneath, but it wasn't. Can anyone give me more info about it?

When was it made?
Is it common?
The guy said it has a pontil mark. It's a little rough but looks too perfect to be a pontil to me. Is it a pontil?
How much would it be worth if it was intact?
How much is it worth in it's current state?

I currently have it for sale on etsy.com for $70. Too much? Too little?

I really like it, but for some reason, I don't feel as attached to it as I am to the bottles I've dug. But I've only been digging for about 2 years now.

Thanks.

sticky ball pontil, and $70 is too much in my opinion.
I would imagine with so much of the lip gone, it would be worth $10-$20 to the right person

Looks like a Willington and woulda been a killer whole. Is it as cornflower as it looks in the pics?

Yeah, maybe I'll lower my price. Just curious, if this was whole, would this be one of those bottle worth over $1,000 or even $10,000. Searching through these forums I've read that some of this big jars actually sell for that much (I'd rather get a car, personally).

Maybe I should make it back into a lamp.

Looks like a Willington

I googled Willington. It does look like a Willington, made by the Willington Glass Works, West Willington, Connecticut, 1845-1860, which makes sense since I'm in Connecticut. It looks like one sold at auction for over $1600 a couple years ago. Man, I wish it wasn't broken!

I have a near mint one with a open pontil..very whittled glass...it is not quite wide enough to be a Willington..but wider then most. it is about 7 1/2 in. tall and about 2 1/2 in. wide..how about yours?.I gave $250 for mine and probably gave too much..more in the $150-$175 range from others I have seen on ebay.

Yep $70 is too much..but who knows?

I agree with the price Sandchip gave...JAMIE
