I dug this one today. Any thoughts as to what it was for? It is ceramic over metal screw top.

Tandy , If it is small it is most likley a Scent or smelling salts bottle , the design looks to be hand painted . The top looks like an early screw type , very course thread . Not sure of the date but pretty sure its before 1900 . Nice find !!

It would most likely be a purfume or toilet water bottle, there are quite a few in that shape made of glass, can't say I've seen too many in ceramic though.
I agree that it's probably pre-1900 and is quite a nice find [;)] .

I agree with MONSONANT,it is possibly a scent bottle.It,s very pretty and I wonder if it might be porcelain?good find.
