Clear glass bottle stamped "1496"

Hi, could somebody shed some light on this glass bottle which I found in a junk shop in France.
The stamp on the front says "1496", there are two letters, the first of which I can't decipher, the second one is an "R".
The glass is not at all coloured.
It's clearly hand blown with lots of bubbles going on but I can't quite believe it's as old as the date stamp says!

Only guessing here. There are a couple of incongruent things here. The amount of bubbles and the apparently ground pontil. I think this is a relatively new piece made to look old. Lots of bubbles makes stuff seem old. ground pontil marks are often found on newer or more expensive items. If you have an expensive piece of glass, then you don't want bubbles. My take on the other letter is "M". Looks cool though. Is it relatively heavy for its size? Might be lead glass. Scott

I agree, most unusual to find a ground/polished pontil on an ordinary jar/pot (like mustard), laboratory and fine ware is where you usually see them. It does also look like an applied seal/stamp but not quite, more like molded lettering with a glass bead around the edge. That could just be the picture thoughAre there mold seams?No, don't think it's from 1496
