I have always wanted to find a C.A.Richards and the only other one I have found had a broken top. It was in stoddard olive green color. Well I just found what I thought was an amber one but upon cleaning it up found it to be GREEN! I dont really know alot about these Bitters but does anyone know how rare a green one is and a value. It does have one drawback and that is the base has a crack. The other is one I found this past winter that is an early cologne or perfume that is light as a feather and has a cool design to it.

A quick search on the American Bottle Auction web site showed several amber ones selling from $70-360. That said, there is mention of Richards in conjunction with a green Guilmette's Extract of Juniper Boston, stating the similarities of the mold and in fact might have been the same/similar mold. The example of the Guilmette's also had a base crack and sold for $325, and was noted the rarity without the crack example would command a price "with a extra zero." Can't say this helps all that much, but in case you find an undamaged one, I would suspect the price comparable. A fantastic looking bottle, regardless! Jack

To the best of my knowledge and information, as a former BITTERS specialist, that bottle in not considered a BITTERS. I believe it is more properly grouped with Liquor containers. It is not listed in Ring & Ham.

There are a few bottles that, because of found, authentic labels, will be grouped with BITTERS but the specialist wants that magic word embossed in the glass.

I believe a bit more research is called for here. At any rate, no matter what it originally contained, it's a GREAT looking bottle.
