Finding a lot of pottery shards but nothing whole yet. I love the little cracks in the glazing Called crazing. The pattern on this shard is to me is very cool. If it was whole it would be better.

Crazing can be an indicator of age to a degree. This is a natural change, actually damage, to the surface of any glazed piece of china, stoneware or porcelain. This change can take place in as little as a few months to many years, depending on the glaze mixture and exposure to various elements of nature. Beware however of modern induced crazing as it is created in modern but ancient looking pieces. Natural glazing can be identified by looking closely with a pocket magnifier and you will see these marks are"cracks" in that glazing. Modern glazing is really a fraudulent attempt to make an item look old...this type crazing is NOT cracking of the glaze but miniscule painted lines.
