Heres Pic of different tops. Unfortunately I could not find any names on them. Plain. Was hoping they'd have a Detroit Ginger co name on them but no luck. Does no name make them worthless? LEON.
Leon, they are not worthless if you dug them. I'd say you have a great digging spot, bottles, shade, river to cool off, nice scenery. I still have two of the first bottles I ever found (under & in a house) and value them HIGHLY. They are worth perhaps $50 total but they will never leave me. Be careful what you discard.
Ditto what Jim just said....I still have my FIRST bottle, an 1880's slick extract, and it is in my case with all my higher end stuff. Priceless 50 cent bottle! Averages out to a penny a year I've been collecting. Also, if I am correct, if you put the last bottle farthest to the left then I believe they would be in chronological order, oldest to newest, L-R. I also would expect to find a makers impressed mark in an oval somewhere near the bottom quarter section of the newer (or center) bottle. Looks like a 25-30 year span in age, or 1870-1900, so go dig dig dig! Who knows what other gems await! Jack
Yeah, They are sentimental to me. I'd never sell them. I found my first Hutch in this dump also, a D.C. FUNKE from Detroit. My first Cobalt blue Stafford ink. One of my Favorites the Winterhalter & back bar white lettered Whiskey bottle. Been digging this river dump past 2 years & been finding many Interesting things. Wonder what will be next? LEON.
Most likely says Buchan / Portobello. A lot of the stoneware are debossed with that company. I know a few companies made similar bottles here in the US but all I have ever dug were the Buchan type. Great dig though. And looks like a great spot. Good luck and keep digging.
Your pic is too blurry to make much out. I have 2 I dug on the west coast marked. First one is H Kennedy/Darrowfield/30/Potttery/Glasgow, all in arches except the #30. Very hard to read without a loop. This one is all cream color but I have seen them in the two tone style as well. Second one I have is similar to yours and simply Macintyre & Co/2/Liverpool, with Macintyre in an arch and Liverpool in reverse arch. Hope this helps....I'm sure there are several more companies not mentioned. One could create a full collection of the different names, I'm sure.
