That is an interesting list. I have dug at least one example of all the embossed bottles on that list that were either OP or IP, but not the Hostetters or Lyon's jake. I believe that the Lyon's is the same company that put out the Katharion, etc, E.T. Lyon of New York.

"Balm of a Thousand Flowers" what's this bottle look like? I'm just liking the name of it!

Nice ad did you find that online? I like going to the library to look through those old directories once in a while.

Looking around the earliest I see is 1853 so I guess early 1850s is about the inception time or at least when they started advertising it.

Doug, it's a little six sided sided bottle about 5" tall and maybe 2" wide. Wide applied lip and both OP and smooth base. I have dug several around town; there is one on fleabay at this time.

Makes sense; the advertisement is a little too early to be referencing E.G. Lyons of San Francisco. The website SF Genealogical Database is an excellent site that recently added/linked to over a dozen SFCDs available via the internet archive.

The Lyon's i have is rectangular and pontiled,I think there is another rectangular lyon's without a pontil.I know I have the pontiled example,but not sure about the other,although I think I do have it also. We also have a Balm of a Thousand Flowers it is smoky flint glass and is pontiled(Its in the wife's perfume collection)
