Jamaica Ginger

Got this one off Feebay the other day. McMillan & Kester's Ess of Jamaica Ginger S.F. . The Seller said it had some faint embossing on the back too faint to make out. Turns out it's embossed vertically McMillan & Kester's S.F. on the back. Almost like the same mold was used when they did a differently embossed bottle. Anyone familiar with this bottle to shed some light on it?

Now THAT (the embossing front & back) is KUHL ! I think, if I recall correctly, that most "Jakes" are embossed vertically so perhaps this company decided, later in their business life, to be different, swim up stream, march to a different drummer, dance to a different band, etc. I like Western bottles, I particularly like THAT one.

there seem to be a lot of variations of those bottles.

Looks like maybe they recycled an old style mold part and sort of filled it but not quite.

My thoughts too Matt. Never thought about most having vertical embossing Jim . This one is an applied top too.

I believe the old vertically embossed McMillan wore out, then the other side of the mold we reconfigured to read horizontally. I have an example with just the worn out mold embossing, crudely made. I have few examples like the one pictured with the odd applied lips that almost look too small. See this thread for some different jake pics.

That link sort of confirms my thought about verticle embossing. My memory is better than I remembered. Unless I forgot.
