In the photo I have posted, if you take a close look at the bottom it has been embossed two times with the same lettering. W T CO. 2 U.S.A. Does this effect the value of the bottle?
hey neice, ive found lots of double stamped bottles, i dont think it affects value that much, that bottle is prob around 1890 1910 , love to see the early crudness in bottle making mike
Thanks Mike. It's my old Jacobs Pharmacy bottle. I put it on ebay earlier this evening, then got to wondering about that. Did not mention that in the description, so I hope it doesn't matter. I'm like you about the crudness.
I've have a Celery Compound bitter, w/ a 26 and light 26 offset, an oldmtimer at work told me the piece of glass hit the bottom of the mold(1st time) light emboss
then after blown the real emboss is the centered on

That is pretty common on bottom glasshouse embossing and I have never seen it affect values. I doubt anyone would even list that fact when selling its so trivial.
Now, screwed up embossing on the front or sides of the bottle (the main embossing) will affect the price. Weak embossing often lowers the value of bottles. Mispelled embossing normally increases the value. Something like filled letters normally has no affect.
Also, the more rare and valuable an item is , the pickier buyers tend to be about little stuff.
Jacobs bottles do very well on ebay, Coke collectors go buggy over them and they are bid up every time they come up. The BIM's do better than the ABM's. You may want to add that it's ABM? And as most auctions you'll get most of your auction in the last few seconds. I've always described the double stamping as ghosted.
Just checked your auction, your 0 feebback is going to hurt you, along with the reserve. I know I will not bid on an auction with one. You may want to add to the description what the reserve is. Not trying to be a pain in the rear just truthful. Normally I'd say it would close in excess of a hundred. I saw one similar to yours with a label years ago and it went in excess of $200.00
Thank you. I will try to edit my page on ebay. I know I sound dumb asking all these questions, but I'm still new at this. My first auction ended lastnight, but the echeck hasn't cleared with paypal yet. Hopefully, when it does I will have some positive comments. I'm trying to do everything right with it. Before I try to edit the page with the Jacobs bottle, will you please tell me what you mean by ABM and BIM? Thank you for your kindness and patience.
Well I tried to edit my ebay page to remove or at least lower the reserve, but with no luck. I let the ad run for 10 days, then used the relist option, and it still would not allow me to edit that portion of the ad. I searched their question and answer pages and it seems I am not the only one having problems with editing. Thanks again for helping me.
