Hi All,
I haven't been on thus site for a while now. I am still trying to find some info on the above bottle that I have. I tried once before but couldn't find out much about it. Super nice bottle in deep emerald green and in mint condition. Has anyone seen one being sold in the last last year or so? It's a F. H. Hecking's, Mineral Water, New York.

Thanks,
Big Ralph

Well, at least you got some answers compared to my original post when we dug the bottle back in 2003: https://www.antique-bottles.net/forum/m-1879/mpage-1/key-hecking/tm.htm#1879. I did eventually show the bottle to a collector or two at the Baltimore Show -- got positive responses but not much information. Also, there is some historic pamphlet by F.H. Hecking listed somewhere in Germany -- never got a copy before it evaporated from Google. And the bottle is listed in Donald Tucker's mineral water book. Not much more than that ... but it does look good in the window. Enjoy.

Hey Big Ralph,

Welcome to the Forums. Here's hoping you will put up some good photographs.

I'm pleased whenever I can find a single nugget of information on a bottle. Tod has it listed but doesn't have a photo, Over Here.

Frederick H. Hecking is listed in the 1872 Trow's Directory:"Hecking, Frederick H. drugs, 370 Pearl, h N. J."

He's listed in the 1877 Gouldings Directory: "Hecking, Fred'k H. oils, 3 New Bowery, h Hoboken"

His booklet to which Andy referred is in the Boston Athenaeum:

"Hecking. Frederick II. Directions for the use of [his] artificial mineral waters. N. Y.. 1863. 12". (D 38)" From.

Also, Here.

That's all of the nuggets I found so far. Please do show us some good photos. How'd you come upon this bottle?

hello Andy,

Is it listed in this one?

"Apuzzo, Robert. 1994. Bottles of Old New York: A Pictorial Guide to Early New York City Bottles, 1680-1925. R & L Publishing, New York. This book is primarily a picture guide to an assortment (~150) of largely embossed bottles from New York City and vicinity (e.g. Staten Island) dominated by primarily aqua/colorless soda, beer and some druggist bottles. There is some interesting general historical information although little specific to the illustrated bottles." From.

I do not recall it in the Apuzzo book. The Apuzzo book by the author's own admission is not fully exhaustive and tends to primarily focus on bottles from the 1880s to 1910s. Also, did not realize it is listed in Soda & Beer Bottles of North America -- thanks -- and as Tod's website notes, the bottle is listed in Tucker's book.

Holy Smokes, Tod!

Did'ya have to visit the New York Library for that comprehensive listing bonanza?

So, Is Eliza French or Swiss? Did she change her mind? [8D]
