I would like to know how anyone could bid on a bitters on e-bay and be confident it wasn't a fake or repro of some kind, because it seems like a lot of people are passing these off as the real thing.

Oh, sorry, I didn't realize I did 2 new posts, I thought I cancelled the first one.
I don't know how to post links, but would like to know if someone can help. I have some bitters but what I was thinking that some people could be fooled by all the fakes, am I not correct?

Hey suzanne,

Are'ya speaking of listings like this: [http://www.ebay.com/itm/Bitters-dark-bottle-Jamaica-ginger-root-vintage-Dr-Chandelers-/320785263704?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4ab04aac58] or something like this offering: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lot-4-Early-Various-BITTERS-Bottles-PHIL-BERRINGS-BALL-AND-CLAW-HORSE-SHOE-/290628453352?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item43aace43e8?

I'm not a fleabay fan, and seldom go there unless directed. I probably looked at 40 some bitters before finding the first one of these.

Exactly. It is impossible to find bitters bottles for sale in Iowa. If you do see one it'll be machine made or screw top and they want 60.00. So I looked on E-bay and realized it's hard to find them there too.
