Its a large gill of some sort. Caught this type several times before. They get fairly large. Caught one that was 13 inches long, excellent fighters. Like to use a short pole with 8 lb test line and best bait are night crawlers. Use a crappie hook, they seem to work the best.
My neighbor and I were fishing for bass in about 20 ft. of water. He caught one on a plastic worm, weighed 3 lbs 3 oz. We couldn't believe what he caught, I mean on a large plastic worm. These qills mouths aren't that big.
