These fountain syrup crock jugs will be auctioned off locally this Sunday. I don't really collect these but they look really unique. Does anybody out there have any interest in these or have any approximate values?
I am by no means an expert on stoneware fountain syrup jugs, but I did a quick internet search and could not any jugs "exactly" like the one's in your picture. This doesn't mean they don't exisit, but it does make me wonder if they are genuine or fake? If it were me I would be cautious and do some extensive research before paying good money for what may not be a genuine, vintage item. I suspect it would be easy to take a generic stoneware jug and counterfeit the writing.
Notice the Coca Cola jug pictured below and how the style of lettering is identical to that on the Pepsi-Cola jug in your picture. The description associated with the Coca Cola jug did not state it was genuine, but neither did it state it was a fake either. It basically left that determination to the descretion of the buyer. Long story short ...
I recommend "Buyer Beware."

I am skeptical of these too. They all seem to have the same color red paint. That Pepsi thermometer in the picture is a fantasy piece put out in the late 80s early 90s.
Again, I am not an expert, but after doing some additional research it appears most of the genuine, brand name stoneware fountain syrup jugs had "paper labels." Which, if correct, makes sense in that a jug manufacturer would only have to make a limited number of different styles and then apply whatever paper label it called for according to how they were ordered.
Here's an example of a paper label Coca Cola jug from my Alan Petretti book and described as "Early 1900s."
Thank you all for your input. I'll give them the "scrape test" and let you know.
The auction bill list other "old bottles", so I'll have to go take a look anyway just in case...
