Hello I know nothing about this bottle. What is it's history? How old is it? Says BUTSCHKY towards the top of the bottle. It is brown stoneware. Any information you have for me would be great. Thank you.
Thank you for all your help. I'm in no rush. I have been collecting bottles for awhile, but never really read up about bottles. I just kept what I liked and kept what I didn't like all that much too. As a kid I would spend hours in the woods at old dump sites looking through piles of bottles. Those were the days! This bottle was actually found by my Uncle while he was Oystering. It had a oyster shell adhered to it until I touched the shell a little to hard.
Thanks surefaceone for the history. I live near Baltimore so I'm sure that this is the guy. What does it mean that Butschky is listed with 12 barrels of lager beer? Would he have filled the bottles himself from a barrel and then sold the beer?
I believe your bottle to be Victor Butshke of Baltimore, Maryland. It is pretty cool that it was found while oystering. I happen to have a stoneware beer bottle from Maryland that has two clam shells stuck inside. If you are will to part with the bottle, I would give you a generous offer for it. Here is a link to another Butschky bottle like yours http://www.sodasandbeers.com/SABShowBottle.aspx?Bottle=56585AD&Firm_Number=56585
Thanks for the Name (Victor Butshke). I have a few bottles with clam and mussel shells inside also. I think that it's cools that the clam or mussel grew inside the bottle. It is my Uncles bottle. I'm trying to find information on it. He is not know for parting with bottles or anything very easily. Mister, did you find the stoneware bottle with the shells inside? or did you buy it?
I wish I had found it, but it was a purchased bottle from the Baltimore Bottle Show. I normal only find a lot of glass pieces and bottles from the Chesapeake when I go down canoeing along the Choptank.
