I'm digging a site (with permission) where the house was 3 stories tall (old plantation house) and once housed one of Georgia's ex-governors! I found an area in the back of it with a lot of bricks buried in the ground, along with some odd ceramic pieces partially in the ground and on top. It looks like a large trough, but with some of them coming out of the ground, I was wondering if they were some kind of liner for the privy. This guy once bailed the state of Georgia out of debt by himself, so I guess maybe he could have had a privy with a ceramic lining? Is this common? The site goes back to the 1830s. I found some historical accouts buried in historical records which indicate other building sites near or on the plantation, like the old church, where the slaves lived, and another large plantation house across the way a bit (it was built by a French nobleman in 1793).
