Well, I braved snow and freezing windto go digging today. It was a looong walk to the dig through on forest trails...

I started badly, moving 3 yards of ash for one burst lip ink. Not good. I was goingto abandon, and thought I'd go around with a fork first. Suddenly I hit a lot of glass Looks like there were two dumps, on for ash, one fr bottles. Maybe they came out the house via dfferent doors. Anyhow, the ground was so packed full of glass, I did not dare use the fork. I had to scrabble with hands to pull out bottle after bottle. Looks like they had all rolled down a slope and accumulated at the bottom...

I found about 60 bottles, mostly 1890-1915 All jumbled up together.

Here are the best... I found three spoons in the dig! Mostly these are bottles from a poor family, nothing expensive or extravagant

I'm going to have to clean some up before I can post pics. The Brown bottle the left is very interesting, but you can't see why yet!!

Here is the brown bottle. I found 8+ brown and just one clear. The embossing says "Silver Churn Butter Colour" with a milk churn trade mark.

I guess this is not surprising for a farm dig!
