inkwell info?

I dont know much about this inkwell but a friend has offered to sell it to me. Any info on it would be appriciated. No embossing and it is not a pontil (i dont think it is atleast)

If I had to guess (and I do), I'd say it was an English "penny" ink... a very common "burst lip" Victorian/Edwardian ink...
