Hi Guys:

Jam and preserve jars, the ones with the wire and glass lids, are they worth keeping? Of any value? From what I can tell they date somewhere in the forties. I tend to collect the pre-1900 bottles, but I stumbled across some of these jam jars on the weekend and they are kind of nice looking when cleaned up.

I did a quick search on the site for a similar thread, and I didn't find any. Sorry if I am repeating someone else's thread.

Any info appreciated, thanks

Hi Bottle diver,

Personally, I am not into preserving jars, however a lot of collectors are and it is a popular field. Some of them date back well into the 19th century and I have seen one sell for over $US11,000. Mind you it was cobalt blue and one of only two known. If the jars are modern and you like them, why not collect them, after all people collect avon bottles and modern miniatures.
