Thanks everyone, I was the one honered by Charlie's company. He moved to Maryland in 1941 but was born in West Virginia I guess about 1910. He said he worked at a New Martinsville or Payton City Glass House somewhere near the Ohio River, not sure of spelling. So he can't tell me where they dumped around here when he was a kid but might be able to tell me something for you West Virginia boys. The stuff near his house did not seem too old, but hey ya never know till ya dig. Wouldn't mind finding the missing piece to that lantern globe but it's likely it ended up where it was because it broke on the train. Made my day to get a 150 year old bottle from a 97 year old man. Kind of a weird perspective!

Jim said it best, we have no idea how pleasureable it is for people like Charlie to have visitors. At 97, HIS elders have all passed on and new acquaintences are rare. A knock on the door from someone, anyone, can make a persons day. And then, when they want to talk about things from his generation, it makes it that much better.

My grandfather used to try to corral the mail man with stories of lumberjacking in Oregon or Zeros over Pearl Harbor or any one of so many great adventures. We don't realize that many of our oldest citizens feel forgotten, it's a great thing that you've done. I wonder how long it's been since Charlie made a new friend?

Been finding some interesting metal junk near Charlie's and some railroad related stuff. I'm also into rusty metal junk its a sickness you probably wouldn't understand but since you're bottle collectors some of ya just might. Found an oil lamp to glue back. Also many candidates for some serious electrolysis ( I gotta make a better set up) Finds include another triangular trivit, ice skate, fancy stove or tub leg, half of a bell and other stuff. Besides the B& O globe I've found some signal lenses and signal battery jar pieces.

Here's two different tops to R.S.A. Signal Cell battery jars ([:(] No jars so far) The one on the left is made by the Waterbury Battery Co. of Waterbury Conn. and the right was made by National Battery Co. ( later Eveready) of Cleaveland Ohio.
