Hey there my fellow diggers. How's everyone doing? I feel bad as I havent posted anything for quite awhile, even though I've been digging 2 or 3 days a week all winter. Springtime is nearly here, so the big thaw isnt far away...YEAH! I know I'm getting tired of chopping through several inches of frozen ground here in the Midwest, so most of my digging lately has been down south where it's nice and warm...haha. Last thursday and friday I dug 3 pits that were just loaded, so I ended up with about 400 keepers, (which is one of my best digs so far this year). Needless to say, it was a fun dig! One of my best finds was made just a few minutes before I had to leave for home on friday. I had pulled out several Hostetters Bitters from the pit and had another one stuck in some roots in the side of the hole. As I was peeling in the sides after finishing up the bottom trash layer, I finally hacked through the roots and pryed the square amber "Hostetters" from it's spot where it had been exposed for a couple hours. Much to my surprise, it was not a Hostetters....it is embossed HICKEY'S CELEBRATED STOMACH BITTERS NEW ORLEANS. I have dug a lot of New Orleans bitters, but that's one I have never seen or heard of, so it now sits proudly on my shelf. If I had known what it was, I most certainly would have extracted it much sooner! I'll bet we've all done this while digging?
