metal tag

Hello all, I made it out for a dig today. I'll have to say it's been awhile I don't get out nearly as much as I used to. I didn't come across anything super but it was productive day. One of my finds was this metal tag. It has a man's name and town as well as a date posted. I know I have seen these before. I was thinking they had something to do with a drivers license or maybe an engine compartment tag? For the life of me I can't remember. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi, I've found ones like that trappers used to tag their trap, It might be a legal thing... DD
