Well, returned to the pit of roots, I am calling it now. About 10 feet from a 150 year old tree and the roots are unbelievable! Anyhoo, I intended to return to fill 'er in today, as I was too whipped yesterday to end it. Plus, I had dug into the roots so far back I couldn't see just what, if anything, I was still into. I had the nagging feeling I had missed something. Ever get that? I jumped in with a light and in less than a minute, I found a shard of glass, looking like a base edge. Using the trusty screwdriver, I get to working along one side and I can make out some side embossing. Looked like Louisville, and I think, "Can it be the elusive Bull's Sarsaparilla?" I've only dug about 2 dozen with smooth bases and iron pontil bases, but never whole. Then I realize, there is no "E" at the end of the embossing. Ah Ha! Scovill! Then I think about the broken Dr. Roger's Liverwort Tar & Canchalagua I dug on day one. I left the pieces topside just to taunt myself! Actually I like to remember what comes out broken. I figure if they got one bottle, there might be two or more, and one might be complete. Never know. So I finally get it loose from the hard clay it was caught in and it was in perfect shape! Base not pontiled but a nice early half circle key mold. Nice and crude with some nice drip on the front side lip! Yay! Been looking for one since I dug a busted open pontiled one last year and glued the pieces together. Yeah, it isn't a rare one, even pontiled, but I have always been a sucker for the early meds with the funky strange concoctions embossed. Made for a quick trip, as the humidity is just a bit too much for serious digging, esp. as shallow as this is along with the roots from Hell! Need to get a cooler day to return and finish it off, if it isn't already. Dug 2 little slicks in the way of the Liverwort, but crude and 60's looking, so there could still be another decent hider. Hopefully......

Thanks Jimbo, I love the serpentine S's, looking like they are falling forward, and the serif style, esp. on the T's and L's. My kind of embossing! Jack
