Bixby Bill
Well-Known Member
Last week I had an email from a forum member who sent me an ad from Craigslist in NH where a guy was selling a bunch of Bixby bottles cheap. To make a long story short, I finally went up there today, (we finally had a good day with no snow!), a 6 hour round trip, and bought two boxes of Bixby stuff, a box of jars, and another box of misc. bottles. It turns out that his father was quite a digger from Maryland and collected Bixby items, he passed on a few years ago, his mother was just put in a home, so he is cleaning out a lot of his father`s things. He was very happy that they were going to another Bixby collector, he said that is what his father would have wanted. There are about a dozen pieces that I didn`t have: the light lime green bottle, the tin sign, the two magazine ads, the small labelled sided mucilage, one trade card which I had never seen before, the ink blotter, and 5 of the labelled round bottles. It`s not often that you get a chance to buy a whole collection of what you collect, esp. when there are pieces in it that you`ve never seen before. All in all there are 33 shoe polish bottles, 12 tins, 15 trade cards, 1 ink blotter, 1 tin sign, 9 magazine ads, 5 ink/mucilage bottles, 3 blueing, and 1 brush with Bixby spelled out in the bristles. I would have paid just for the sign what I paid for the whole thing, including the box of jars and of bottles.
